Philadelphia's Dispensary Landscape
As Pennsylvania's largest city (population 1.6 million), Philadelphia has the highest concentration of medical cannabis dispensaries in the Commonwealth. Patients have access to multiple dispensary brands across the city, including locations in Center City, North Philadelphia, South Philadelphia, and the surrounding neighborhoods.
All dispensaries in Philadelphia — and throughout Pennsylvania — are medical-only. You must present a valid PA medical cannabis card and government-issued ID at every visit.
In 2014, Philadelphia passed a city ordinance reducing the penalty for possession of 30g or less to a $25 civil fine. However, this does not change the requirement for a medical card to purchase cannabis — dispensaries will not sell to anyone without a valid card.
Major Dispensary Brands in Philadelphia
Philadelphia is served by several major multi-state operators and local brands:

Philadelphia and the Border Competition
Philadelphia's proximity to New Jersey makes the border-state competition especially visible. New Jersey's recreational dispensaries in Camden, Cherry Hill, and other nearby towns serve adults 21+ without any medical card requirement. Many Philadelphia-area residents cross the bridge to purchase recreational cannabis in New Jersey rather than navigate the medical card process.
This dynamic is a key argument in the recreational legalization push — Philadelphia-area tax revenue is flowing directly to New Jersey.
Don't Have a Card Yet?
Getting a PA medical cannabis card is straightforward — telehealth appointments are available, and many Philadelphia-area physicians can certify you the same day. See our step-by-step guide: How to Get a PA Medical Card.
